ABOUT

Joka (JanArt Brendan Sterling Winfrey) is a proud native of the westside of Chicago. Born on a hot August in the late 80's, Joka was a child that wasn't a stranger to church. His father was the Minister of Music at a number of churches and funeral homes around Chicago. When Joka was about 11 years old he started to be the sound engineer at his church. At the tender age of 12, Joka started to rap with friends at his elementary school. When he wasn't actually rapping for his friends, he provided beats for them to rap off of by drumming  on the desks. These were all early signs of what was to come.

All throughout high school, Joka rapped in studios. Music did not take off for Joka so he decided to attend college. While attending the University of Illinois at Chicago Joka started to produce tracks. The reason for this is because he  "didn't like waiting on producers for beats."  In 2012, Joka used his "impatience" & creative skills to start graphic designing images. He used his knowledge from  the Photoshop class he took in high school, studied many more tutorials, and picked up the art. He designs a large portion of all his artwork, social media, and websites.  He also designs professionally for many small business and artists with his design company, W.O.A. Creations.

After more than a decade of crafting his uniqueness, Joka is ready to take the world by storm. His primary goal is to show "whats good from the hood". Join the journey of this millennial as his attempts to push hip hop and American culture forward.

"I want to represent whats good from the hood." - Joka
